Best Buddies Preschool students are learning a variety of different concepts in the three classrooms that house the eleven different interest areas prescribed by Creative Curriculum. From blocks to sand to the library, the preschoolers are learning a variety of concepts in exciting ways!
In October, Firefighters Aaron and Ben visited us from Wyoming's Fire Station One. They taught us about fire safety and showed us a fire truck. We also had the opportunity to visit the Gerald R. Ford International Airport's Fire Department.
We observed our environment and learned about living and non-living when we visited the apple orchard / pumpkin patch in October. We learned about the many varieties of apples that are grown in Michigan, got to jump in the hay and bring a pumpkin home.
Grand Rapids Children's Museum In January we took a field trip to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. We had the opportunity to explore all of the different areas including the rescue area (special exhibit), the bubbles, the grocery store and the manipulatives.
Sledding! We had a great time sledding down a short hill next to the ECC! Afterward we enjoyed a treat of hot cocoa and cookies! Thanks to all the parents who helped us!
January was a really busy month for Best Buddies Preschool. Not only did we take a day to enjoy the weather (sledding), we took a field trip to Papa's Dogs and More where we learned about a restaurant. We saw where everything was made, the big ovens, refrigerators and freezers. The best part was getting to try a hot dog in fresh baked bread and eating a yummy cookie!
We had the opportunity to SKYPE with Cassidy Goldblatt, a violinist from the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. She taught us about her violin and talked to us about classical music. She also played a piece for us by Vieuxtemps.
Continuing our study of music and instruments, Mark Sala, Lee graduate, composer and musician, visited us in preschool. He taught us how music is made on a guitar (vibrations when the strings are struck) and sang some of his own songs for us!
We had the opportunity to visit Palermo's Pizza again this year. Ms. Janice & Mr. Andy let us roll and stretch the dough, spread the sauce, sprinkle the cheese and place the pepperoni before putting it into the oven. We took the finished pizzas back to school and had a yummy treat!
Studying lifecycles was a large part of our spring at Best Buddies. Not only did we watch a tadpole change, we also watched caterpillars turn into butterflies and hatched duck eggs in an incubator.
Our last SKYPE session this year was with our superintendent, Mr. Britten. He spoke with us from his office, showing us his iPad and asking us about what we have been learning in preschool.
